Just in time for the Tour de France, Giant has released the Giant Pursuit aero helmet that combines the speed of a time trial helmet with the ventilation of a conventional road racing helmet. Developed in conjunction with the Team Giant-Alpecin professional riders and Aero Concept Engineering (ACE) in France has resulted in a road helmet that Giant claims has an aerodynamic edge without compromising fit, ventilation or weight.
Giant Pursuit Helmet Specifications
The Pursuit helmet has eight large vents at the front of the helmet, inside the helmet there are deep, wide AeroVent channels that carry air around and over the riders head to the back of the helmet where there are five large and two small exhaust vents to release the air.
The top and sides of the Pursuit helmet are smooth, aerodynamically shaped and free of any vents but have a dimple each side near the rear that Giant says minimizes drag.
The overall helmet shape features an aero profile with a unique design that features two large dimples to channel airflow from the crown of the helmet toward the rear. CFD simulations and wind tunnel tests show the dimples optimize average aero performance in various rider positions and wind directions. This minimizes drag for riders seeking an aerodynamic advantage and is designed to produce maximum speed in real-world rider positions.
Through extensive aerodynamic research, analysis and third-party testing, the Pursuit helmet is proven to deliver the ultimate in road helmet performance: cutting-edge aerodynamics along with best-in-class ventilation, light weight and fit.
As well as coming in multiple sizes the Giant Pursuit also comes in two different shapes or fits, Western or Asian fit. The Western fit is the standard oval shape wile the Asian fit is rounder.
The Giant Pursuit has a claimed weight of 250 grams and features Giant’s Cinch Pro fit system, Element Strap System (ESS), multi-density EPS foam construction, transtextura plus antimicrobial padding and comes in a range of colours including the Team Giant-Alpecin, matt black, white, red, blue and fluoro.
The Giant Pursuit helmet is priced at RRP USD230.
