Mark Cavendish Stage 7 winner

Mark Cavendish made no mistake in winning today’s Stage 7 of the Tour de France making up for Stage 2 and losing race leader and teammate Tony Martin to a crash yesterday, it was a wide open flat finish to the stage and Cavendish timed his sprint to perfection waiting until exactly the right time to come around the inside of Andre Greipel to win from Greipel with the ever consistent podium finisher Peter Sagan in third.

With previous leader Tony Martin not starting the stage Chris Froome has taken back the overall leaders yellow jersey with an eleven second gap to Peter Sagan. Peter Sagan has taken an impressive run of top 3 stage finishes and grabbing the bonus seconds today has moved him into second place ahead of Tejay Van Garderen, Sagan will be looking to take the win on the Stage 8 finish of the Mur de Bretagne which would probably see him take yellow as well. With the time gaps so close between Froome, Sagan and Van Garderen it will be an action packed finish.

The gaps between the other GC riders Nibali, Contador and Quintana remained the same, about the only incident was a minor crash between Alberto Contador and Robert Gesink just before the start line.
